Gifted students are children in grades K-12 of the Douglas School District who have superior ability or potential for accomplishment and whose educational needs require modification of the regular curriculum. Such ability or potential may be demonstrated in any of the following areas or in combination:
The following test scores will be used as guidelines
in determining the eligibility of a student for the gifted program in
the
areas of general intellectual ability and specific academic aptitude:

Students made and used solar cookers
to cook hot dogs.
Students
in the gifted program do a variety of activities. They explore
different
topics of interest to them such as inventions, chemistry, archeology,
history
and writing. Some students create multimedia projects that can be used
by classroom teachers and other students.
Enrichment
classes are also offered at Francis Case and Vandenberg Elementary
Schools.
Enrichment groups are open to gifted students and any other student who
might have high ability in the specific area of the enrichment class
being
offered. We offer five different enrichment classes through-out the
year.
They are science, math, creative writing, logic and Hands-on Equations
(a program designed to teach algebra to third, fourth and fifth
graders).
Each enrichment class runs for seven weeks, then a new class of a
different
topic begins.
